Yoga & Ayurveda: An Introduction To Living In Balance

Ayurveda is a branch of Indian wisdom that is a sister science to Yoga. The word itself translates to “Knowledge of Life” and it does indeed cover all aspects of living well, which in Ayurveda means living in balance.

Like yoga, Ayurveda has been around for thousands of years and so it’s a vast area of study and practice but in this workshop, you’ll get a taste of the big ideas and you’ll take away some basic principles that you can quickly and easily put into practice such as:

  • Ayurvedic insights into nourishing yourself in a way that’s in harmony not only with the changing seasons but also your individual constitution.
  • Developing dinacharya (simple daily routines) to bring more self-regulation, adaptability and resiliency into your life.
  • An ayurvedic lens on yoga practice so you can make choices that support balance and vitality for your constitution.

The Doshas

In the workshop, you’ll first learn about the doshas (the elemental system that explains the tendencies of our individual bodies) and how they make up your “super secret sauce” i.e what makes you YOU! Then we’ll look at the ayurvedic clock and see how you can best harmonise your life to the time of day, the changing seasons and the changing time of life.

The Vital Qualities

From there, we’ll explore the vital essences of Prana, Tejas and Ojas; the qualities within you that can influence how you think, eat, sleep, and generally live your life. We’ll also take a look at how Ayurveda views the mind. The good news there is we can change it! 

This workshop is in a talk format with time for questions. Although we may tune in with some breathwork it is not a movement-based class. As such this workshop is suitable for everybody.

The Practice

As a bonus you will receive an additional 45 min recording demonstrating how you can put the principals you've learned into action on your Yoga mat. With each pose Cathi explains how each of the three dosha types can benefit from the pose.  The session concludes with a meditation for each dosha.

Cathi will be starting one-to-one Ayurvedic Yoga Consultations in Jan/Feb 2022 and participants in the workshop will receive a 50% discount on consultations  (valid until May 31st)
