This course is designed to strengthen your natural capacity for mindful awareness. While there is a "mindfulness muscle" to develop and a corresponding formal practice, this course aims to show that mindfulness is very ordinary, everyone can do it and it can be brought into your everyday life. As we adopt this "nothing special mindfulness", we find we have opportunities for choices that lead to a more integrated, ethical, and ultimately, a happier way of living.

The focus for this course is expanding from the Level 1 Course  Rediscovering Body and Breath. This Level 2 Course Many Ways Of Being Mindful  develops practice by bringing us into a greater understanding of the psychological underpinnings our our actions.

There are Three Main Points of Focus For This Level 2 Course

  • Many Modes of Meditation

    There is a variety of meditation modes, both formal and informal eg. formal walking meditation and informal weaving of mindfulness principles into your walk on the beach alone or with friends; formal standing meditation and informal weaving of mindfulness principles into waiting in line at the supermarket

  • The Flavour of Experience

    The second foundation of mindfulness, called "vedana" or feeling tone, helps us think about the flavour of experience. This concept explores how each moment can be placed on a continuum of pleasant and unpleasant with neutral in the middle. We'll explore how locating our experience on the continuum prepares us to engage skilfully with our thoughts and feelings and prevent exacerbation of suffering and instead enhance the conditions for peace and happiness.

  • Radiant Abodes

    The "Brahma Viharas" or the Radiant Abodes of Friendship, Compassion, Appreciative Joy and Equanimity, are said to be source qualities, or qualities that are innate and always available to re-connect with. We'll explore this teaching in a variety of ways; yoga movement and restorative yoga, formal and informal meditation and reflection


We'll weave all three points of focus into each week, as follows:

 

Week 1:  What is Pleasant Experience? Friendship & Sitting Meditation Variations

Week 2: What is Unpleasant Experience? Compassion & Standing Meditations

Week 3: What is Boring Experience? Joy & Walking Meditation

Week 4: What is Equanimity? Dwelling in Everyday Radiance

 

Each Week You'll Have Access to

  • A Seminar to set the theme for your week of practice and exploration. There will be a short talk, focused practice and discussion. Live attendance recommended but recording will be available. Mondays 7-9pm. 


  • A Mindful Yoga class (75 mins) designed to help you embody the theme for the week. Option to attend live or access anytime recording. Tuesday 7-8:15pm 


  • A Mindfulness Meditation Class (30 mins)  designed to help you explore the theme for the week in formal meditation practice.Option to attend live or access anytime recording. Tuesday 8:30-9pm


  • Q & A sessions to support your progression. Optional to attend live or access anytime recording. Monday 9-9:30pm


  • Community Discussion Forum where there will be regular tips and prompts for weaving the principles into your everyday activities in practical ways.
     

All Live sessions are recorded so you can catch them later if you miss one. Once Enrolled, the course is yours for 6 months so you can revisit and explore the content at your own pace.

 

  • Accessible For Beginners

    Whether new to yoga or an experienced yoga practitioner, mindfulness brings a potent perspective to our experience of our body mind connection. Beginning yogis will discover that meditating is, literally, not what they think. Instead it's a visceral experience and readily accessible through the gateway of the body and breath

  • Powerful For Those Already Practicing

    Those who do already have yoga experience will find that mindfulness shines a new light on their relationship with their body and breath and offers a fresh perspective. All will benefit from the stress-relief and insights that arise from formal mindfulness meditation and applying these insights to their everyday lives

  • Authentic For Each Individual

    Throughout the course, modifications of yoga poses and movements will be offered so that each person can meet themselves where they are and feel empowered to explore their own authentic experience without struggle or strain. This way of practicing is an embodiment of friendship, compassion and wisdom and is the gateway to joy!
